Ingredients
- 1.5 lbs ground beef (80/20 blend works best)
- 1 small yellow onion, finely diced
- 1 green bell pepper, finely diced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup ketchup
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 1 tablespoon light brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
- 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
- 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
- 6 hamburger buns, lightly toasted
Instructions
- Brown the meat and veggies. This is better. Ground beef in a rich, tangy, slightly sweet tomato sauce. Piled high on a toasted bun. Messy.
- Satisfying. 25 minutes from fridge to table. The sauce is everything. Ketchup for the base.
- Brown sugar for sweetness. Worcestershire for depth. Mustard for tang.
- Apple cider vinegar to cut through the richness. More complex than anything from a packet. Your kids won't know the difference. But you will.
- Ingredients: 1.5 lbs ground beef (80/20 blend works best). 1 small yellow onion, finely diced. 1 green bell pepper, finely diced. 3 cloves garlic, minced.

- BBQ sloppy joes: Replace half the ketchup with your favorite BBQ sauce.
- Sloppy joe nachos: Skip the buns and serve the meat over tortilla chips with melted cheese, jalapenos, and sour cream.
- Stuffed peppers: Spoon the filling into halved bell peppers, top with cheese, and bake at 375F for 20 minutes.
